It is one of the most famous images in North America's skiing history. It depicts a tough battle hardened 10th Mountain soldier in full winter camouflage gear. The painting model was a man named Horace Quick, an accomplished outdoors man and skier who participated in the famous high altitude Trooper Traverse from Camp Hale to Aspen in winter of 1944.
