Howard Head started the Head Ski Company with about $6,000 he had saved, and lost money his first year of business. That would soon change after his first few prototypes and then drastically by the time the Model 360 was introduced. the Deep Powder skis was a specialty ski for the western slopes.

1960s Head Deep Powder skis (210 cm)
I bought a used pair of these skis in Alta in 1969, mounted with Swiss Sumatic alpine touring bindings. They were long and heavy and were incredibly torsionally ridgid, but the front of the ski could bend upwards almost as if it were hinged just in front of the boot.Their skiing characteristics were unusual:.* There was no kind of snow (soft enough to sink into) that they wouldn't do with ease.
