The town of Mammoth Lakes, California is the home of Mammoth Mountain, the active volcano that doubles as a ski resort. With 3,500 acres of ski-able terrain, Mammoth is colossal. It also has a long history, going back as far as the late 1930s, although the town of Mammoth Lakes wasn't officially incorporated until 1984.
