On December 8, 1941, the Army activated its first battalion of mountain warfare troops, called the 87th Mountain Infantry Battalion. As the National Ski Patrol’s President was responsible for lobbying the War Department to create these troops, the Ski Patrol took the role of recruiting, training and outfitting the Ski Troops in winter weather gear, such as white camouflage uniforms and skis. This battalion became the 10th Mountain Division.
This 10th Mountain Division equipment is now popular with WWII collectors, ski connoisseurs and those decorating with white skis and ski poles. We have a few different types of 10 Mountain aluminum and bamboo ski poles and decor. The 10th Mountain ski poles shown below are from the World War II inventory.
