BACKGROUNDof Vintage Ski World's Owner, Richard Allen

Richard Allen, founder of Vintage Ski World, LLC, has gradually acquired one of the largest private collections of antique ski equipment, clothing, posters and memorabilia in the world.

"I come from a skiing family, -- 'many generations' starting in Norway. Skiing has been a huge part of my life since I can remember, and running a ski related business as unique as Vintage Ski World is a dream come true. I love my job!"

OUR AWARENESS ABOUT COLLECTING VINTAGE SKI MEMORABILIA:

Over the past decade we have noticed a sharp decline in the availability of quality old wood skis, and especially those produced by the top manufacturers like Northland, Strand and Groswold. A few collectors, and others who have an interest in vintage ski gear and memorabilia, are aware that there is a new rival to the wood ski era collectables. This involves collecting the 1960s and 70s metal and fiberglass skis, but the majority of the skiing population have no idea that these are collectible skis.
The renaissance period in American skiing took place during the post WWII period through the end of the 70's. This was an age of innovation, invention, ski area growth on an epic scale, dramatic social change, and significant shifts in thinking about how we ski and how skiing is taught. We have our parents and grandparents to thank for this, as they put special attention on making the skiing accessible to all. There was also no other era of skiing in which Americans had so much fun with their sport.
The gear and other collectables from this period of great innovation have, for the most part, been ignored and most of the ski material culture from this period has been unceremoniously dumped into landfills. Now it is finally being recognized and appreciated as important and Vintage Ski World intends to take the lead in presenting the best of this renaissance period to its customers.
We Thank You for visiting and shopping our website. Hopefully you will find something that brings a smile to your face and reminds you of the joys you have had while skiing!
