We all thank George Watson, who donated 1800 acres of land to the US forest service so the Alta ski area could be built. The first chairlift opened in 1938, with 2020 vertical feet. The lift cost .15 cents per ride. Dick Durrance followed Carl Fahrner as the ski school director at Alta. Dick Durrance and others also trained paratroopers during WWII at Alta.
