Billy Kidd had, previously that year (1965), won 13 races in a row against his teammates like Jimmy Heuga, Billy Marolt and others. Billy liked racing against the Europeans in this Vail race. In 1964 Billy Kidd won the first U.S. medal ever in alpine skiing, when he finished second in the slalom at Innsbruck.
