In The Spirit of Hope Book - Signed by Dick Durrance II
Dick Durrance was raised in Aspen, Colorado, and began his photography career on a trip to Danube while attending Dartmouth College in 1964. His photos from that trip became the cover story for the July 1965 issue of National Geographic. Thus began a 58-year career in professional photography spanning many fields. Over six decades, Dick has worked as a U.S. Army combat photographer in Vietnam; a staff photographer at National Geographic Magazine; a corporate photographer; and as a landscape photographer, first shooting personal black-and-white photographs and then National Parks.
Dick has won numerous awards for his photography, including Military Pictures of the Year: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, from the National Press Photographers Association in 1968; Magazine Photographer of the Year from the White House News Photographers Association in 1972; and Advertising Photographer of the Year from the American Society of Media Photographers in 1987. Dick currently lives in Carbondale, Colorado, with his wife, Susan Drinker.
