Mammoth ski area was started by Dave McCoy with a single rope tow in 1949. The summit of Mammoth reaches 11,053 feet, with a 2,000 foot vertical drop and a season that goes from November to June. Mammoth offers some of the best skiing in California. Located in the Sierra Mountains of California, it receives record amounts of snow from the prevailing winds carrying moisture from the Pacific Ocean.
